Reagan apologized to me tonight. That might not seem like a big deal to most, but she actually meant it. Jordan had a friend over tonight and Jim took them out for ice cream leaving me with the two little ones. Not a big deal, but Reagan decided to "misbehave". There is always such a thin line between misbehaving and "three-year old stuff" so I qualified it as such.
Anyway, I was feeding Maddy. That means it's perfect time for Reagan to do exactly what she wants to, even if I am not happy about it. She's figured out exactly when I "can't" get up to stop her. So she wanted to go downstairs and I couldn't watch her, so I shut the gate. She was UNHAPPY about it. She started hanging on it and kicking it. I got mad and asked her to stop.
I did get up to stop her, but still had Maddy in my arms and did what I could to minimize the chaos. I asked her to apologize, but she didn't really do it. Oh well. She did give me a hug and kiss, but not much more.
Later, after I tucked her in, she shouted as I walked to the door, "Mommy I'm sorry. I just really wanted a band-aid and to go downstairs. I didn't mean to be bad". I stopped me in my tracks. She had actually thought about her behavior and what I had said. WOW!!!
I'm only writing about this because it doesn't seem to be a fluke. She was kicking my seat on the way home Friday night and I had asked her to stop. I had to smack her legs once which didn't do much. Most of the time I ignore it, but it was really icy out and I was concerned about driving. I had all three girls with me and I was driving on Richardson Road - not a great road anyway. She did the same thing. Within about 15 minutes of me requesting her to stop, she apologized. She was able to vocalize what she was sorry for. It was bizarre.
My guess is she really does understand! Holy Cow!

Grabbing stuff
Maddy is really starting to grab things on a more regular basis. She is definitely exploring items with her mouth. She is routinely grabbing my fingers and pulling them towards her. When I work with her on my lap, she will try to grab the thing we are using and then try to pull it towards her. She's figuring that out. :)
This morning, she actually grabbed "me" and pulled me to her. It was cute. She had taken a break from nursing and then got all excited. She grabbed my boot and pulled and moved her head. It was a little awkward, but she was definitely trying to pull me towards her mouth. I'm just amazed!

Pooty girl
Reagan has been a tad gassy lately. Jim was helping her get dressed tonight - he was sitting on the floor. She bent over and pooted right in his face. I, of course, belly laughed.
Couting to 30
She's working on counting to 30 apparently. She's counting that high, but will only miss a few. I'm guessing she's not far off from knowing it all. The interesting thing about the numbers is that she is finding the numbers while driving in the car. She will point larger ones out more readily now. She's also counting it in Spanish. Wow
God is good
For some reason, Reagan thinks that if you add the word "God" in front of a bad word, it makes it OK. It really doesn't, but how do you explain that to a three year-old? I'm not sure.
Today, she said "damn". Whoops. Right in front of Jim. Of course, like a good daddy, Jim corrected her. So then she said "God D&*$". Whoops again. Of course, he corrected her again.
She said "but Daddy, I said "God"".
Wow!

Bouncy seat heaven
Maddy LOVES the bouncy seat. We started putting her at the table in the bouncy seat so we could "all eat together". It is really funny to watch her. She gets so excited with the moving animals and kicks so much that she looks like she's going to take off. She just gets so wound up playing in that seat. I also think she likes being able to interact with us. We usually move her around so she can play with all of us. It's cute.
I got you Mom!
This morning I woke Reagan up by laying next to her and patting her back. She snuggled up to me and patted me on my back and said, "I got you mom". It was so sweet. She's so lovey.

Ice ice baby
Tonight, I went to pick up both Reagan and Jordan near rush hour. Unfortunately, it started to snow at the same time. It took me over 90 minutes to get from home, to Ft. Mitchell, to Edgewood and back home again. The road near our home was so bad they had it blocked off. So I had to take an even worse road to get home. I wasn't worried about driving necessarily... I was confident. But I was a tad unsure about driving a minivan in the weather.
Needless to say, we got home safe. Others though took much longer to make their rush hour drive home. And at 11pm, I75 was still backed up. Ugh. So glad I wasn't driving home from work!

Singing lately
Reagan has always loved to hum or sing anywhere, but she's picked up a few new songs lately. She sung "Old MacDonald" and a few other nursery rhymes that I hadn't heard her sing yet. She's not too bad either considering she's three. :)

Swimming Lessons
Reagan had swimming lessons tonight. This was the first in a several week series to help her get used to the water and start floating on her back and stomach. She did pretty good. I think she was really hoping to get into the other pool to just play. She seemed a tad disappointed with the whole thing and said she didn't want to do it again. I am hoping that she will be excited about it next week.
Reading to Maddy
Tonight, I put Reagan in bed by myself while Jim went to get Jordan. After she was dressed, I put Maddy on the bean bag chair (which propped her up) and had Reagan get some books. I started reading to both girls sitting on the floor. Reagan was paying attention and so was Maddy. She lit up! She started wiggling her arms and legs both so excitedly. It was so much fun to watch her. I plan on starting that as part of our day now since she enjoys it so much. :)
Maddy Mac
Today, we went to visit Papa at the shop. He was holding her for a bit when she started turning towards me... leaning towards me... then she started crying. It was really weird. She's never done that before.
I'm not sure if it was the new surroundings that confused her, but she clearly wanted me. At least she know who her mama is! :)

Maddy and the massage
Today I had a massage. Unfortunately, Maddy's schedule was out of wack and I was worried about her waking up at an odd time. I was right. Half way through the massage, she woke up. She was hungry. So my therapist gracefully helped me get the bottle warmed and gave me some space to feed her. I put her on my right side... not thinking about anything. When I switched, I noticed that she had a big round wet spot on her shirt. Hmmm. Oh Man! I didn't put my bra on when I got dressed to feed her. I leaked while I was feeding her. That meant I had a big wet spot on my shirt too. Sigh... there went shopping. :)
Mom, I love you
Today on the way to school, Reagan said "Mom... I love you!" She said it just out of the blue. It made me melt. I love those times!
Toilet paper fetish
I have absolutely no idea why Reagan seems to LOVE toilet paper. She pulls tons off the roll and then carries it with her. She also get really mad if you take it, throw it away or if Carson tries to steal it. I am only writing about it because I know she won't believe me later in life when I tell her about this. It's been going on since the move to her new school. At least the fetish shifted from rocks to toilet paper. Hopefully she won't start eating it. Ick!

Reagan Day Three
Today was Reagan's third day in Pre K1. I dropped her off about 9:00 - which is also when circle trims starts. She hung on my leg, so I had to pry myself away. They said it would take a week or so for her to adjust to the changes.
Tonight I noticed something - Reagan was calm. Is it the new classroom? When she moved there, we had put her in the younger room. It showed. She was moody and much more defiant. It was a problem - a big problem. She was happier though.
We are hoping that the "monkey see monkey do" thing kicks in. The kids are older and respond better to adults. They also have longer attention spans.
Anyway. I can only hope she happy and that she thrives in her new room.

12 weeks
Maddy is 12 weeks old... sigh. She's getting so big. She's getting so expressive. I just love hanging out with her. I know that I will have a hard time going back to work when it is time. Today she and I were doing my ab routine on the floor. I had her up on my legs... she dropped a big drool right on my chest. Whoops. I thought it was funny. So did she. She laughed and smiled when it dropped and I laughed.
She's not big on tummy time. She used to not mind it. She is also starting to look to the right again so I guess I'll have to work on that reflect some more. She does love her new puppy dog that she got for Christmas. It sings to her and blinks a bit. We played with it some today and she was grabbing it enough that she was able to make the sounds start on her own. Wow!

Elephant and grabbing stuff
Today, I introduced Maddy to Mr. Elephant the Taggie toy. She seemed to like it. I sat her on my lap in a recliner and put it on my lap. She started moving her arms and grabbing it. She's able to grab the elephant by the tags and its arms and pull it towards her mouth. She, of course, Coles and gurgles the whole time too. :)

She slept today!
Yesterday Maddy was up all day. She only took a couple twenty minute naps throughout the day. So by 8:00 pm, she was worn out. She started getting skwinky. I assumed she was hungry. It turned out she was both hungry and tired. She was so tired that she wouldn't eat. She'd eat for a few seconds, start crying and then go to sleep. That went on for an hour. I finally decided to put a bottle in her mouth and wait out the crying. She eventually she ate two ounces and slept for an hour. She woke up again much calmer and ate more before sleeping through the night.
Today, she took a nap for me after her 10:30 am meal. Ahhh. She even slept in the car when we went to get Reagan. Thank goodness. Now she's eating again. She does this every once in a while. Just rarely enough to freak me out, but not long enough for her to visit the doctor.

Hanging with Maddy
Today was the first day of many things. It was the first day of my fat shredding diet (by the way I'm starving). It was the first day of my "schedule" or attempt to get on one. It was Reagan's first dentist appointment and her first day in Pre-K1. It was also the first day of cleaning the house. I am moving from room to room each day to get the junk out.
There are so many places to go here because we tend to just put stuff away instead of dealing with them. I started in the bonus room. I propped Maddy up on the bean bag chair and started sorting toys, games and other fun stuff. Every time I picked up an item, I named it and talked to her about what it was. She had a great time with that. I, of course, also took tons of pictures.
We did move on to the game closet. Oh my, we have a lot of games we haven't even played. Oops. None the less, Maddy was entertained by my dialog and showed it by laughing, cooing and smiling at me most of the time. I think the favorite thing was the "birthday hat" which hasn't been worn in quite some time. Maybe I'll get that back out this year!
We've had a busy day. I'm getting some quiet time, mainly to write and sit. Maddy is in her crib fussing, but watching her mobile.
The last first for today is getting her used to her crib. I'd like to get her sleeping up there at night soon.

Going crazy
I figured out how to make Maddy go crazy! She LOVES my hair. At church today, she giggled when I played with my hair. Tonight, I had my hair up in a crazy bun, meaning my hair was all crazy and sticking out all sorts of places. I leaned over her on the changing table after her bath and she went NUTS! It was hilarious. Her eyes got so big and her whole body, both arms and legs, started flailing. It was awesome! She just smiled and cooed and giggled.
At first, I thought it was a fluke. So I did it on the bed. She did it again. So funny. Can't wait to do that again.

Writing her first letters
Since she's been at her new school, Reagan has started to write. Actually, I should say, try to write. It's cute. The other day she drew an "A". It was actually pretty close. Then randomly she drew the number "2". Again, not doing much than encouraging it because it's been so random.
Tonight, she drew the letter "R". It was deliberate and not too bad. We had asked her how to spell her name (which she knows how) and then asked her if "she could write the letter R". She said "of course I can" and did. It looked more like a circle with two legs, but she definitely knew what she was trying to do. I was amazed. Uh oh... I'm not sure I'm ready for her to grow up so fast.

How cool is that?
That is probably Reagan's favorite thing to say... "How cool is that?"

and she sleeps...
On the way home from lunch today, Reagan had a complete meltdown. It was so bad that she, predictably, peed in the seat. She didn't even know she did it.
When we got home, we had to strip her down and wash her bottom half. After that, I somehow managed to convince her to take a rest - play on her room or read books.
She didn't fight too much. She crawled up on her bed, arranged her animals and went to sleep. Silence.
That was an hour and a half ago.

She likes hair
Today at church, Maddy and I were in the nursing room hanging out during the message. I was playing with her and started playing with my hair. She was immediately captured by my hair falling. She started giggling and cooing. It was adorable.
