Writing already?
Maddy is trying to write already. This past week, she had me write out her name so she could trace it over and over again. Today, she actually wrote the word "no" by herself. It was really cool to watch her do it. She asked how to write No - I gave her the letters. She wrote the N and looked up. I was amazed. I then looked at her and said "you know an O is just a circle". She looked at me and drew a circle. Super proud and way cool for a three year old.

Little artist
When I picked up Maddy today, her teacher stopped me and said "she loves to draw with paper and pen". She really loves to write and her detail with drawings is incredible. We aren't used to seeing that in young children. She does. Her drawings are super details - flowers have decorated petals and stems. Trees have stuff in them. People are actual people - full bodies, filled in details like eyes, nose and mouth and hands and feet. She even changes color (maybe not the right color) to differentiate between different parts (like shoes and pants). I am so amazed every day by what she does. So fun to watch her grow up.

Finding her motivation
Reagan's teacher found her motivation yesterday. She was asked to do some writing and just didn't want to "finish" her work. So her teacher said "well, we are going to make princess wands after writing. So if you want to do a wand, you have to finish your writing".
She told me this morning that it took Reagan 90 seconds to finish her work. He hee.

Writing and reading
Reagan is always trying new things. She has started to carry around a pen and paper so she can write down new words and draw pictures. It's so cute. TOday, she brought a crayon and paper in the car and just kept asking me how to spell things. She'd listen to the letter sounds and figure out most of them.
At night, when we read, she's starting to pick out her sight words. Just amazing. I really want to get her a tag reader. I think she'd teach herself how to read. She just amazes me every day.

Writing her letters and numbers
It dawned on me tonight as Reagan was proudly writing her letters and numbers for me. She's only been in her new class for a few weeks and she can write all her letters and numbers very well. She's able to do so much in such a short time. What a smart kid.
She told us before her first day that she wanted to learn how to read and write. I know she's working on her sight words too. She is well on her way.
I can't wait to see how far she's grown by the time she is four!

loves to write and draw
I've noticed that every time Reagan gets paper out to draw on, she wants to write. She doesn't draw as much as she practices her letters. I find that interesting.

The alphabet
Reagan and I were getting my mom's Mother's Day present together and she decided to write out the alphabet for her. She grabbed a big piece of paper from Jim's office and her crayons and started writing. So cute. She actually did really well. She only needed help with a couple letters. She even wrote in mom's card for the first time. She signed her own name and wrote "I love you". So grown up.

Writing already?
Since Reagan moved up to the preschool room, they have introduced handwriting. It's fun to watch her learn and to hear how they teach her. So far, she's mastered the A, H, C, O and a few others. She's even starting to read sight words. She'll look at something and pick out words. She picks them out of book and off of signs. Interesting. Last night, she picked "sorry" out of a book. Interesting.

Traceability
Reagan is learning how to write. She came home a few days this week with some papers that showed her progress that were pretty impressive. This morning, I just had her trace a few words this morning and she actually did it! Yea Reagan.

Writing her first letters
Since she's been at her new school, Reagan has started to write. Actually, I should say, try to write. It's cute. The other day she drew an "A". It was actually pretty close. Then randomly she drew the number "2". Again, not doing much than encouraging it because it's been so random.
Tonight, she drew the letter "R". It was deliberate and not too bad. We had asked her how to spell her name (which she knows how) and then asked her if "she could write the letter R". She said "of course I can" and did. It looked more like a circle with two legs, but she definitely knew what she was trying to do. I was amazed. Uh oh... I'm not sure I'm ready for her to grow up so fast.

She loves to color and must organize
She is cracking me up tonight. I got her the jumbo crayons from the store and they seem to be a huge hit. She prefers those over the other ones that she's had for a while.
The funny thing is that she's very careful with her colors. They must be all lined up in order and of course be all pointed in the same direction.
She also must assign you a color to color with. Don't just pick one out - she'll tell you that's not right.
She is also starting to color and draw things. For example, she's draw a squiggle and tell me that it's a dog or a snake. The other super cool thing - she filled in an eye on the page in the coloring book and said "look mommy". Pretty cool.
