Giggle fest and 15-month visit

So today, I took Maddy for her 15-month appointment. She does not do well with shots. Today she was going to get shots. Uh oh. :) We got through the appointment. She's great. The doctor said she was doing well - height, weight, milestones etc... Before the shots came, she already started crying. Ugh. She had such a fit that the nurse and I couldn't help but giggle. She just got so worked up that I didn't know what else to do. I felt so horrible.

So by contrast - I picked her up today after school and she was giggling. Amber said that she had giggled all day. They didn't know why, but at times she would just burst out laughing for now apparent reason. Okay. How funny. She's continued that all night and I've laughed right along with her.

Reagan's fourth appointment

Reagan had her fourth appointment today. They do a whole bunch of stuff at this appointment. They check all the normal stuff, but also do a vision test and blood pressure. It's amazing. They also gave her four shots. Yuck.

The doctor said she was very bright and very active. She is quite fun.

Cool thing. She's 41.75 inches tall and 41.4 pounds and in the 86% for both height and weight. Just right for my girl.

One-year old appointment

Today Maddy went to her one-year old appointment. She's now officially one. :) She had the shots. She screamed and cried for several minutes. She fell asleep on the way to daycare. Nice.  I can honestly say that this round of shots was the toughest yet. With Reagan, I didn't know what to expect. She also did pretty well. Maddy doesn't do well with shots at all. And this time was no different. I actually thought about taking her home and cuddling with her the rest of the day because I felt so guilty. Sigh...

The news is - she's in the 94th percentile for height and 88th percentile for weight. Nice. She shot up 2.5 inches in three months. I'm impressed. I knew she had a growth spurt, but man did she grow like a weed.

Nipples are hard?

The other day, after an afternoon of naked crawling, we noticed a hard knot in Maddy's nipple. Her right nipple was enlarged and red and hard as a rock. The next morning, it seemed okay so we didn't worry. This afternoon, I noticed it was hard as a rock again. Geez. What gives? So between the crazy fevers again, swollen neck glands and this, we're taking her to the doctor in the morning.

Maddy's ears

This morning, we went to visit the ENT for Maddy's follow up appointment. It went well. He said her ears were clear and her tubes were working just fine. Yea!!!! Next up - hearing test at one year. :( that's too soon.

Four times in a week

Okay. We were told by the nurse at Children's that we had to take Maddy back to the doctor today because she was wheezing. Sigh. I'm so sick of being at the doctor with this kid. She's FINE! Anyway, they were convinced that she had some asthma type thing going on and she would need ongoing treatment. So Jim took her to the doctor. This makes it FOUR TIMES IN A WEEK. How ridiculous is that!? The doctor said she was fine. Jim went home happy.

Sydney and Maddy's long night

Today started out pretty rough. Sydney started puking last night all over the floor. She puked five times before I went to bed. Because Maddy doesn't sleep well in her bed right now, she's in her bassinet. I pulled her into our bedroom with me about 11:00 pm.

She woke up at 3:00 am or so and wanted up. She had a 102 temp and she had pooped and was about ready to overflow. I was thankful she woke up. I went out into the living room to feed her some and Sydney had gotten sick again after we went to bed. While I was feeding Maddy, Sydney actually puked again right on the floor. That was gross. Just flemmy stuff all over the place.

I went back to bed with Maddy. In the morning, I walked out and she had puked again next to the couch - a lot. Then she puked again. She was lying on her side and had zero reaction to anything. I asked Jim to take her outside just in case she got sick again.

Thank goodness it was nice out. She was not doing well.

I took Reagan to school and Jim took her to the vet. We were told she might not make it. The vet thought she had a gastric ulcer that had burst and she was septic. He was really concerned about her. I figured it was a blocked intestine due to the contents of her puke. After a while, we called the vet and found out that she was slightly better off. She had swallowed a ring of Reagan's that perforated her colon. She was septic, but the vet felt she had a better prognosis. She will be in the ICU for a while, but she will hopefully recover.

I have been really frustrated with Sydney lately because of her meds. It's for her mastitis, but was making her crazy. Without it, she wouldn't be able to eat or move her jaws. As frustrated and irritated as I can get with her, I don't want her to die. Damn dog! I can't wait to see her today. I pray she pulls through this thing so I can love on her some more.

Two girls, two tests

Jim and I got up early today to get both girls to Children's Hospital for tests. Reagan's glands have been swollen, so they wanted to do some blood work. Maddy was going to get some x-rays due to being "breech". They were checking for hip dysplasia.

I told Reagan in the morning, "we're going to get blood drawn today". Jim wanted to find a softer more-subtle way to tell her. I didn't feel there was a way to do it. :) I took Reagan back when they called for her. She sat on my lap. She had no idea what was going to happen. I told the nurse that she didn't understand and she "explained" it. But it wasn't until she got the prick that she totally understood. She was not happy. She cried, but miraculously held still for the nurse. She cried so hard but no screaming. Whew. We got a BUNCH of stickers from Steve the Alligator. That really didn't help much. She did get a cool Bugs Bunny band aid. That didn't help much either.

Jim got the easier thing to handle - Maddy's x-rays. It didn't phase her at all. They did wake her up and she did pee (without the diaper), but that was fairly quick and easy. She seemed unphased when they returned.

The good thing is that we should know the results today. Whew. I can't stand the stress associated with the blood work! :)

Maddy's four months already

Maddy had her four month appointment today. She did great. The doc even said her head was "perfect" this time - no flattening on either side. (woo hoo). She was 26 inches (95%), 16 lbs (75%) and her head was about the 50th%. It's funny - Reagan was off the charts in both height and weight. :) The doctor said she was doing great and to keep it up. We could also start solids soon, but he suggested waiting til closer to 6 months since I had such bad allergies.

The funny thing was the shots/vaccines that she got. The nurse gave me the dropper with tylenol in it. She took that great for me. She came in next with another oral vaccine and then two shots. The oral vaccine was hilarious. She did NOT like it at all. She kept making faces and jerking her head away from the nurse. She was laughing. The shots weren't so funny. She ended up not liking those too much, but didn't cry that long. She was fine after a few seconds. Thank goodness.

She did, however, sleep wonderfully in the afternoon. She was tired from the shots. :)

Reagan's three year appointment

Today, I took Reagan to get her three year old check up. We got to see our favorite doctor. She was shy for a bit, but warmed up pretty quickly. She was in his lap by the end of the appointment. She's 39" tall and 33.6 pounds. 87 and 75th percentiles. Tall girl.

She did great up until the shot. I warned her about it. Told her it might sting, but she wasn't really ready for a shot. She was brave. But man did she cry a lot. As we were leaving, the doctor said "goodbye Reagan". She tucked her head down and just walked on. Poor thing. She told me later that he hurt her feelings. (I thought it was sweet).

The interesting thing was our evening with her. She was 100 mph for a while and then got really grumpy. Hmmm. She was so grumpy and fussy at dinner, I just said "get down and go play if you won't eat." She did, but she wanted us to join her. When she didn't get her way, she cried and fussed. Then she fell silent. Of course, we had Maddy so we didn't pay too much attention to it all.

I got up to clear the table about 6:15 pm and she was asleep on the floor next to the TV. Totally zonked out. Jim moved her to the couch - that didn't phase her. We let her sleep until about 9:00 pm. We woke her up to take her meds and go back to bed. She whined some, but really didn't argue much. Once we got upstairs, she was putting herself in bed.

WOW!

Maddy's two month appointment

Today Maddy had her two month appointment. Sigh. She is doing great. Her head is no longer flat on one side and her neck muscles have straightened out. Yea Maddy! :) No PT for that. She's slightly behind Reagan in her growth, but she was early and 1.5 pounds smaller than Reagan at birth. She's still on the same track - above average height and weight.

The bad thing about the appointment was that she had three shots. She cried instantly. Reagan waited until after her last shot and then it registered. Not Maddy - she had tears a second after the first one went in her leg.

Oh yea- and she peed on me. Nice huh? When the doctor was examining her, she peed on me. :( Oh well.

She's doing great so I won't complain at all.

One month visit today

We had her one month visit today with her doctor. She's gone from a 50% baby to an 80% baby. She's grown 35% in the last four weeks. Amazing. She weighed 9 lbs. 8.5 ounces and was 22.5 inches long. Her head is "smaller" like Reagan's was - not surprising.

I had questions about two things - her head and her breathing pattern. I have noticed in the last few weeks that she likes to look over her right shoulder predominately. I asked and she said it seemed that her neck muscles were tighter on one side and to start doing some simple stretching exercises to work on that - turn her head to the left and touch her ear to her shoulder every diaper change. She did mention that her head was slightly flattened on that side already and that we would watch it. If it's not better by the two month visit, we'd have to do some therapy for her. sigh... no biggie though.

When the doctor was showing us the exercises, she cried the whole time. Now tonight, she seems to only want to look to the left side. Odd.

She said the shallow to deep to non-breathing was normal. Thank goodness. It made me feel better.

No shots this time either. All in all the visit went well. She said she was beautiful and strong. Go Maddy!

2-year check up

She was actually really cute today. We got to the doctor's office and she sat up on the table. I grabbed my handy bag of crayons and let her go. She colored the entire piece of paper with every color of the rainbow. By the time the doctor arrived, she had a masterpiece.

The doc interacted with her. She asked all sorts of questions about her drawings and Reagan was all too eager to tell her all about it. She said she was impressed that she knew her colors well, numbers and could actually say full sentences. She even figured out that you could "reason with her". Yep you can - I do it every day. She's a smart cookie - I'm a proud mama. :)

One cool thing - we get to try peanuts, peanut butter, nuts, strawberries - as long as we have Benadryl on hand. Fun. No shellfish until age 3, but that's ok. I'm in no hurry for that anyway. She has yet to show signs of food allergies and I pray that she never gets my allergies. I hope that she gets Jim's which is nothing. Ooo and we get to go to 2% milk. Woo hoo.

So for her stats - apparently Reagan is tall. She is 37 inches to be exact! Holy Cow! I asked the nurse to double check. It was still 37 inches. So in 6 months, she's grown 2 inches and only 1.75 pounds. She is definetly slimming out.

One year appt

Today I picked Ms. Reagan up from school early to take her to her one-year appointment. She did fine. We found out that she is ahead of most developmentally and she is still in the 91-94 percentile in her growth. Thank goodness. I also asked about "all the bumps" in her mouth and we realized that she already had tooth #5 coming through (on top). WOW! She is officially moved over to whole milk at home (no more formula) yea haa and finger foods.

After the doc's visit, the nurse came back in with needles - ick! She had to get a finger prick to test for lead and then four shots. The nurse really wasn't very good. She sucked actually. But oh well. She had a hard time getting blood to drip out of her finger (duh maybe because she held her arm up and not down-DUH). I tried to tell her but what do I know. :) The shots were horrible. Reagan was so worked up by the lead test that there was NO calming her down at all. Poor thing. I felt so bad for her. But she recovered nicely. She hung on to me until she stopped crying and then quickly looked for a toy. Yea baby girl.

We took off and went home. She was quite grumpy and clingy, but I handed her off to Jim for a while so I could mentally rest. That was a tough appointment.

Oh well - we don't have to go back for 3 more months. Whew!

Nine month doctor's visit

I picked her up from LRS about 145pm for her 215pm appointment. She hadn't taken a morning nap, so I knew I was in for a fun doctor's visit. She passed out on the way there and did not want to wake up at all to get out of the car seat. I put the blanket on my shoulder so she'd have something to snuggle on. She slept during the walk into the office, while I was checking in and during the initial visit. The nurse said "ya know you're going to have to wake her up". Duh - I knew that. She was none too happy about having to undress to get on the scale. As soon as I started undressing her, she started crying. My little angel was wiped out and hungry both, but I think the tired was winning out.

It went well. She's over 95th percentile in both weight and height. She's about 50th percentile for her head. She's consistent. My little angel is not so little. He heeee. She usually does really well with Dr. Hsu but today she did not want to get poked at. She wanted to sleep and be left alone.

He did tell me that her cold had turned into an infection and that her ear was getting red and had some fluid behind it. Poor thing. She had to get a finger prick today to check for anemia and a flu shot. Oh boy did that hurt. She had no idea what was coming. She just looked at me like "what the heck mom" and started bawling. Ugh. Then the flu shot. Yea, she didn't stop crying for about five minutes. Poor thing.

Needless to say, when we got in the car, she fell right asleep. When we got home, I got her out of the car and took her upstairs. She didn't wake up even for that. I put her down and she slept for three hours and woke up starving of course. Poor thing.

Four Month Doctor's visit

Today Reagan got some more shots. Ewwww. She seemed to do fine for the first two shots. The second two shots didn’t go over so well. Apparently those hurt. Her face just got RED and her eyes started welling up with tears. Then she cried. I felt so bad for her. She recovered just fine though.

The doctor did tell me to start putting her down sooner at night and it might help her getting up at night. He thought it might be that she was overtired. Hmmm. I guess she may be one baby that needs more than 15 hours of sleep at night. Oh well. I’ll try that tonight and see what happens.
