She's reading
For the past three weeks, Maddy's been sounding out all of her words. Today, at school, her teacher brought a book out when I showed up and she read to us. It was awesome. Her trick - tell her to sing it. Wow! What an awesome thing.

Reading Reagan
Reagan is really reading well this summer. While we don't make her read every night like we should, she surprises us every time. I think she secretly reads on her own at night when we aren't looking. She loves the Dr. Seuss books we have and constantly amazes me how well she reads.

Reagan is a reading machine
Reagan totally cracked me up tonight while she was reading. We picked out "Frog and Toad" to read - she loves those stories - and we read every other page together. When she read, she was not just reading in a simple voice, she was putting emphasis on words and putting emotion into it. It just cracked me up. At the end of one sentence, she even smacked her head (like duh Toad that was dumb). So funny to watch her be able to do that while she reads. So proud of her.

So smart
I can't believe how much Maddy knows already. She's got some sigh words down. I put in the Preschool Prep series in this morning and she said about 75% of the words before they told her what they were. Reagan was cheering in the backseat too. So I guess we are now onto the second CD tomorrow. I can't wait to see what words she knows from that one. :)
My little girl is reading like crazy
Reagan is reading like crazy. She doesn't stop. She stayed up last night and read in her room. She ready her Mickey Mouse book to me tonight... it's not a reader either. I was so impressed. I love watching her grow and build her confidence. It's so cool to see he try without fear finally. I just love it. So proud of her.

Me do it!
Maddy has been shouting lately "me do it!" with a lot of gusto. It applies to just about everything she does. Most of the time, it's when we are reading books. She likes to sit down in her room with all her dollies and animals around her on the floor and read them books. Too cute.
Once I bring her onto my lap to read books, she shouts out "me do it!" So I have to let her. She reads to me first. :)

Reading like crazy
Now she reads Green Eggs and Ham? Really!?? She read it tonight without much help. She did get tired of reading it about half way through. We just shared the reading at that point. She is just amazing me how much she can ready. Just blossoming every day more and more. Wow!

Reading is taking off
Holy Cow! She is really taking off. The other night, she read "Go, Dog, Go". She's done that a few nights in a row. Tonight, she read me one of my favorite kid books - "A Monster at the end of the Book". I'm so impressed. She is getting so confident in her reading and other skills. She also starting to talk a lot more about what she does at school. I guess she is finally getting in to the whole school thing a bit.

Reading
Maddy loves to pretend to read. She will almost always find a ton of books and take them to her room. She will sit down amongst her animals and blanket and just read. She reads like she's actually reading the book. She looks at the pictures and is able to make up some pretty accurate stories based on her viewing of the pictures in the book.
It's just so sweet to watch her do this. I used to love watching Reagan. I'm so glad to watch Hootie too.

Seek and find
Reagan has gotten crazy good at these seek and fnd books. We had gotten her some kid ones and she just blasts through them. I bought her one that she actually has to read the words to figure out what to find. That frustrates her a bit. But, once she knows what to find, she can find most of them in seconds. It is just amazing to me.

My daughter can read!
Today, Reagan stayed home sick with chicken pox. So I decided that she wold still have a structured day similar to her school environment. We would do reading, play, lunch and whatever else, but wanted to still take the time to work with her on her reading.
We pulled out her sight word pack and went through it. It was about 20 sheets long (about 5 words each until you get to the end). After a while, she got antsy. She was done focusing. So I gave her the packet and said "read it to me".
She did! Thirteen words.
"Who is that? That is the princess. She is back at the castle."

Reagan's tired?
She doesn't like to sleep. She doesn't like to nap and she doesn't like to get out of bed. Today, I asked her if she wanted to go to the park. She said "whoooopppie" and ran to the steps - she knew we had to get dressed. We got upstairs and she said "momma, I'm tired. I want to take a cat nap." ???? What? A nap. Those words don't come out of her mouth ever.
She did. She sat up in her room and got her quiet time. She read a few books and came out dressed ready to go.
Is she getting sick?

Maddy and books
Maddy, in the morning, sits down in the corner and reads books. She will pull them out one by one and look through them pointing at different ones. She will even talk about the things she is pointing at. Then she will, as systematically as she took them out, put them all back and get up. I guess that is her reading time.

Detail girl
Reagan always seems to blow my mind lately. Tonight, we were driving over to Florence and she began to talk about "Cinderella, the animated movie" and/or the story. She got the scene stuck in her head where the wicked step-sisters were signing at the piano. Many of you may know that scene.
What blew my mind was the detail that she recalled. She told me exactly what the girls were wearing - the colors of the dresses, the tiaras, their eyes and lips - and the fact that they were singing horribly and smacking each other with a flute. I laughed because I knew that I would have to watch it myself to verify. Either way, I was amazed at the level of detail she gave. Wow girl!

Mouse on the mouth
Reagan and Joseph had a bounce-fest in the basement at my parents house. Neither kid won, but Reagan got a bloody lip and a bruise on her upper lip. Nice.

Reagan is reading
Reagan's reading is really starting to take off. She's been working really hard on her sight words. She is learning how to sound words out. So now, at night, we don't just read books. We get one that she can work through and then we read a snuggly book. I'm so proud of her that she's reading. :)

Tag
We bought Reagan a Tag reader. So far, she likes the games only. She apparently loves Spiderman, not Princess stuff. Who would have figured that one out. No way. That's okay. As long as she tries it, I"m good. I think this could be a cool thing to help her learn how to read.
Watch, she'll be the one kid that learns the traditional way. Oh and Spiderman over Princesses? Huh?

Writing and reading
Reagan is always trying new things. She has started to carry around a pen and paper so she can write down new words and draw pictures. It's so cute. TOday, she brought a crayon and paper in the car and just kept asking me how to spell things. She'd listen to the letter sounds and figure out most of them.
At night, when we read, she's starting to pick out her sight words. Just amazing. I really want to get her a tag reader. I think she'd teach herself how to read. She just amazes me every day.

Writing her letters and numbers
It dawned on me tonight as Reagan was proudly writing her letters and numbers for me. She's only been in her new class for a few weeks and she can write all her letters and numbers very well. She's able to do so much in such a short time. What a smart kid.
She told us before her first day that she wanted to learn how to read and write. I know she's working on her sight words too. She is well on her way.
I can't wait to see how far she's grown by the time she is four!
