Surgery, sigh

We found out that Reagan needs to have surgery on her mouth. Because of her age and activity level, her new dentist feels it's best to use a general. Sigh. At least she really likes the doctor this time. That makes it easier. They found a few more things that our old doctor had found and they need to be taken care of fast.

One tooth extraction, one root canal and some fillings on her adult teeth. Plus they'll go ahead and do some sealants and some other things to help get her better of going forward.

This sucks.

What a Gash!

Today was a fun day for us all. The girls had a half day at school and as soon as we got home, Maddy immediately got into her pjs. She was ready to snuggle under covers and watch cartoons and play dress up. We played peacefully for a while - I even got to dose off on the couch for a bit.

About 4:15, Maddy decided to ride our couch like a slide - she slid down the back of our couch. The bad thing - she had done it enough that the backing had pulled away from the couch and there was a nail exposed. She ended up sliding right down on that nail.

She ended up with a gash about eight inches long. I knew as soon as she started screaming what had happened. I scooped her up and took her upstairs to get Jim. She thankfully had done a good clean scratch. We washed her off and put on some polysporin. Geez. It's mean looking.

We took her to the doctor and he said that it was a bad scratch, but did not need stitches. Thank goodness. We got an antibiotic just in case and was told to keep her dry as much as we can and watch for infection. She should be fine in about 10 days.

Tooth gone bad

Reagan has an abseced tooth. We found it about two weeks ago, but was assured that it was just a normal thing that kids get - a mucus seal. When she got stomach cramps on Thursday, we took her to the doctor. They looked at her mouth and said it was an absece. Grr.

Needless to say, Jim got her into the dentist and they said the tooth had to come out. Not a big deal actually, just not a fun thing to deal with.   The infection is below her tooth, there is no root and if we don't get it out, it can damage her adult tooth. Grr again.

Well, I took her to the dentist on Friday afternoon to get it out.  The nurse was the one we don't do well with at all. She is never nice to Reagan.  As soon as we got in there, she started fussing at Reagan for being too fidgety and a kid. Just made me mad.

She started working with Reagan - she didn't get any nicer when Reagan started to get upset. She got an attitude and I let her know quickly that I wasn't interested in her attitude with my kid. She could find someone else to help.

At that point, Reagan was done. She wasn't going to do it. She was freaked out. The doctor wasn't interested at all either. Needless to say, we ended basically getting kicked out with a recommendation.

Ata the end of the day, I'm actually happy about it. The pediatrician gave us a really good recommendation and I am thrilled. He actually gave me a funny look when I said where we took Reagan. Needless to say, as angry as I was and probably still am at my doctor, they just aren't equipped to work with kids.  Hopefully we can get this taken care of next week.

Allergic reaction?

Oh shoot. Maddy ate the mess out of some pickles tonight and her entire jawline up to her cheekbone swelled and turned red. I gave her some Benadryl and put some hydrocortisone cream on her face. It helped. Now I'm worried.

Mt. Olive pickles.

Carson having seizures again

Well Carson had some more seizures. Six to be exact in the last 24 hours. It started at 4am Thursday morning and went until 4am Friday. The last three were between 11pm and 4am. Ugh. Poor thing.

Bug bite gone bad

Maddy started complaining Sunday night after the recital about an area on her leg. She had apparently gotten a pretty nasty bug bite right below her bootie on her right leg. It was swollen, pulsing and just ugly. Poor thing. It hurt pretty bad too.

Our fun morning

Maddy did really well at the doctor's office. She took everything in stride which didn't surprise me too much. We did have an interesting twist - her ear had an infection and her tubes are out of her ears. Wow. But the one on the right side is either sitting in the canal or stuck in the skin due to swelling. So now she gets to have drops for a bit to make sure she's fine. If not, we will have to go back to the doctor to get it out.

Once we were done, we took off and ran a couple errands. We went to the Party Store and she found some really cool stuff for Reagan's graduation. She picked out a crown and sunglasses as well as a dog that you can sign. So cute.

I was pretty impressed with her ability to reason things out. She wanted a dress, then a stuff dog then some other things. I'd give her the "do you want A or B" discussion and she was fine to choose that way. Too bad she always chose the most expensive item. :)

Strep day two

Well, she can't be held down by much. She rested as much as she could stand today, but got pretty bored. She wanted to get up and dance and play. We did play board games today, but I tried my best to keep her settled. I wanted her to have a couple days of the medicine before she got too active again. Too much of my mom in me huh.

Strep wins

Turns out Reagan has strep. She's been complaining a bit about her throat hurting so we kept her from church last night and then school today to take her to the doctor. Jim took her. Apparently she did NOT like the strep test - the swab in the back of the throat. She apparently got so stinkin' mad that she screamed and then tried to leave the room. The nurse let her know that she would be leaving and she could stay with her dad. Next thing, she huddled up in the corner of the room, wedged between the table and chair and just started crying. She was not happy.

Jim took her to the grocery to get her meds and then stuff for her throat. Jello, pudding, popsicles and tapioca. So today she sat around and probably watched more TV than I want to admit.  I had to work and I really wanted to keep her still and not run around. The iPad didn't leave her side for hours. Oh well. At least she is rested and ready for tomorrow.

Another bloody nose but dry bed!

This poor thing is just having the worst luck with bloody noses. She woke up again with one and was so upset. She had blood all over her face and clothes - but no wet bed two nights in a row. So tons to celebrate, but one red morning. :(

Maddy's tummy

So last weekend, Maddy had an upset belly. On Sunday, at Reagan's birthday party, she got bopped in the nose. She bled like a stuck pig - all over the place. Once she calmed down, she was fine. On Wednesday night, she had a bloody back end - we didn't know what to think. So we took her to the doctor. I never thought it could have been the accident on Sunday. So now she's got an upset belly again. I wonder what it is this time. Ugh.

Getting X-rays

Had to pick up Maddy today to take her of X-rays. She still has a horrible cough. I'm seriously getting tired of her being sick. I don't know why they won't just give her the right medication. One doctor says its not allergies. Meds don't work. They change their mind and say that it is allergies. I give up. Ugh!

Sick?

Tonight, Reagan threw up. That simple. She had refused to eat all day. I made her eat her dinner (nice job mom) of chicken and veggies. We went upstairs for bed. She wanted to sleep on her beanbag. Instead of making her sleep in her bed, I just agreed.

Jim walked in as we were reading books. He was behind her and I was in front of her. After I finished her last book, she looked up at me and said "mommy, I think I'm going to throw up".  She's said that before, but I never believed her. For some reason, this time I agreed. She had a "look" on her face and her body looked tired. I knew she was right. She said it again and with that I started saying "Jim, Jim... over and over again. "Get her up".

It took a second for him to click into gear. He did. And we got her all the way to the hallway before she launched. Wow! There goes dinner. We got her cleaned up. Back onto her beanbag and asleep. I kissed her head and left her up there.

Within 30 minutes, we heard her cry again. I knew it! Jim had said early in our marriage that he had to wait for a "golden moment" with Jordan. I should have listened here.

Needless to say, she had throw up again. She was so upset, she couldn't stop crying. Jim picked her up and carried her downstairs to lay on the couch next to me. We slept side by side until about midnight when she decided she was done. She had looked up at me and said "Mommy I want this to be done" at one point. I felt so horrible for her.

We went upstairs eventually and I slept next to her in her bed. In this experience, I learned that she talks in her sleep and hits. Not so good for me. But I will say, I'm glad she made it 4.5 years without puking. I hope she makes it at least that long before she does it again.

Maddy's got a cold

Maddy is getting another cold again. I am sad to say that I may have to take her back to the doctor again. It's been quite a while. We all thought we might be out of the woods with her on her sinus issues. She actually started getting sniffly on Thursday. I keep hoping it is just a cold. I'll wait a few days before making a decision. Regardless, her doctor is getting a call in the morning to check in to see what he wants to do.

Sick

She's had a sinus infection for a little while now.  We started the new round of antibiotics about a month ago. She is on her fourth round. The good news is that her ears are fine. Bad news is she seems to have a strain of bacteria that is extremely stubborn.
We have her on the strongest thing we can give her. Her doctor finally said, "we need to talk" about how to proceed with her. We've struggled for the last year with her health. At some point, we need to start looking deeper for potential underlying issues.
So I'm going to guess we will look at allergies and do a blood test to ensure her system can fight bugs correctly. I'm praying it's just allergies - how sad is that? Either way, she is responding to Bactrum. That is good. Just frustrating we have to go tot hat level.

My poor maddy.
