Sleep my child

My child. You are beautiful and amazing. You are so peaceful. You are such an awesome gift. I love that you want me to snuggle with you at night. I love the fact that I get to watch you sleep. You rub your blankets. You have a sequence that your blankets must be layered on top of you. You must sleep on my shoulder. I love watching you sleep. I will always cherish the moments of your life that you want me to be right by your side... watching you sleep.

Maddy going to bed

I think since Jim has been putting Maddy in bed every night that she is back to being a Daddy's girl. She started coming to me much more often, but it has changed. Tonight, after Reagan's swimming, we got home and she was still up. Jim offered to let me read and snuggle. I'm sure it was a reaction to me saying "I never get to because of my surgery". He made the extra effort to let me do it.

So we did. We read and snuggled. I loved every second of it. It made my heart happy. I missed putting Reagan in bed, but I missed Maddy too. So once we were all snuggly, Jim came in. I guess he thought if it was quiet it was time to go to bed. That was fine. But Maddy now wanted Daddy. Sadly, I gave her up. She wouldn't stop calling for him. I went back into Reagan's room and snuggled there for a bit.

Ya know. I don't know how long my girls will let me snuggle. But I plan to do it every night that they will. There will be one day that they say, "I'm good" or some form of that. Never will I take this time with them for granted. Such blessings. Love the snuggle. Need a tissue...

Carrying stuff around

Maddy loves to carry stuff around. She always has something in her hand or tucked under her arm. It doesn't really seem to matter what it is, just something.

Tonight, she decided that she wanted the HUGE blanket from the basement. She carried it around all Monday evening with her in the basement. When it was time to go up, she was walking towards the stairs with the huge thing trailing behind her. She carried that all the way up and held it during her bottle. What a hoot.

Good morning mobile

This morning about 6:30 am, I heard a crash from Maddy's room. I figured it was something she had thrown over her bed. I got up, took a shower and then went upstairs to feed her. Nope - it was the mobile. She had pulled it down over top of her. It was lying across her body and legs. She was laughing. Thank goodness it didn't land higher - it would have cracked her in the head. Guess it's time to lower the mattress.

My daughter is not dainty

Reagan is Jim's daughter. That is for sure. She often loves to play as she's getting ready for bed which is sometimes very frustrating for us. We, of course, just want her to get ready for bed and be done. That never happens. Tonight she was as crazy as ever and just as we were reaching our breaking point of yelling "get over here", she rolled onto her back, lifted her legs and pulled them to her chest and let out a HUGE fart. Not only was it a big fart, but it was a purposeful and long fart that was followed by way too much laughter. How does that happen? I'm not sure, but I know that she must be Jim's kid.

Sailing

Tonight, Reagan proved that she is my kid again. We were doing the "bed time routine" and she, of course, didn't want anything to do with it. She was bouncing around her room and jumping from her bed to the floor to her bean bags and back again. Jim and I were doing our best to stay calm and not scream. I finally said "reagan if you don't stop, you're going to smack your face into your bed". Damn if it didn't happen two seconds later. She literally jumped from one bean bag to another and sailed right over the top into the side of her bed - the wooden part!!! Wow!!!

Yes, she cried. Yes it swelled up immediately. Yes she has a bruise already. Ugh!

Bedtime attack starts tonight

We started a bad habit with Reagan when we moved her to her "big girl bed" this summer in order to keep her in her bed - we finished the bedtime routine with us sleeping next to her and the waking up to go to our own bed. Bad Idea. Part of it was because she wouldn't stay in her own bed at the start of bedtime. The other part was because she has gotten hurt twice at school and we were "babying" her a little too much I'm sure (call me a mush).

Because of all that, she flat out refuses to go to bed at night on her own.

Jim and I are done officially.

Tonight we are attacking the problem. The only consistent thing that I've found online on the message boards is to just do the silent solution - walk her back to bed without emotion or noise. Just do it.

So we have to talk it up today. It will be painful tonight and for the next few nights. Hopefully she will not resist for too many nights and just start going to bed like a "big girl".

Here's to hoping!

The lights are all on

This morning we got upstairs to wake Reagan up and her overhead light was on and she had a TON of books in her bed with her and her animals. Last night Reagan threw a fit and we left her in her room to put herself in bed. She did just that - she read books and fell asleep on the pile of things in her bed.

Awww...

Big girl bed

So last night, we took off the front of Reagan's crib and let her sleep in a "big girl bed". She was so happy. She did very well. I was impressed that there wasn't a huge fight to get her to stay in the thing. She stayed until I went to get her this morning.

Hopefully tonight she will do just as well.
