More words, an actual conversation

Reagan is just talking up a storm. She has come up with several new words lately that really have us all laughing at times. I keep trying to decifer the code, but haven't come up with anything that makes sense yet. Let me know if you think something does from the new list below.

Mmmmmkaaaa (we think it's moo cow)
Bzzzzzblaaabzzzblaaa (no idea)
Mama
Dada
Ggggg ggggg gggg (just the G sound over and over again)
Ohhhhhh ohhhhhh (when she sees something neat she'll make a high pitched version of this)
Ehhh (he little laugh)
Bakum bakum bakum (this one really has us puzzled)
Daaa daaa (she makes that noise when she points)
Wasssda (is it what's that because she says it like a question - the last sylable is a higher pitch)

Has she walked?

Tonight I was totally amazed by Reagan. I picked her up at LRS and Amy said that she was walking all over the place with their new walk-behind walker. I told her that she does that at home, but that I was glad she was doing it there to.

On the way home, she was getting fussy. Jim and I were wondering if she is started to get an ear ache. When I got home, I gave her some Tylenol. When she finished taking it, she grabbed for the bottle. She kept trying to drink from the lid. So I filled up a cheap bottle with water and she started holding it and drinking from it like it was "old hat". Wow!

Not only that, I swear she must have walked or something today. She was standing at the refridgerator drinking and she dropped her hand and tipped the bottle back all the way. I really thought she was going to fall backwards. She didn't. She just stood there with complete balance. No waivering. Wow.

Next she cruised all around the cabinets - no grip - just placing her hand on the wall as she walked along. If she didn't walk today, she is really close.

I love my 4Runner

I love my car. Have I said that before? I remember when I first started looking for the perfect used SUV years ago. It had to be green, it had to be 4-wheel drive, it had to be a Toyota. Blah blah blah. I finally found it after a year and got it. I was so proud of myself.

So now, I've been driving my 98 4Runner for almost 9 years now. Wow! It will be 11 next year and I bought it in 2000. It is in fantastic condition (although dirty) and runs well. I can't complain.

Except I will. My little SUV was fine until our family expanded a year ago. And quite frankly it probably would have been fine still except I am having a lot of trouble getting Reagan into her carseat. It really tweaks my wrist. I think I may start asking to look at a new car soon.

Jim and I looked hard a year ago - we test drove every SUV out there. We looked at American cars and every foreign car we could find. We settled on the Toyota Highlander, but then decided to just stay with our paid off cars and wait. Glad we did, I was home 8 months with Reagan and a new car payment would have been stressful.

Hmmm. What to do?

Unsettled Reagan

Well Jim told me today that Ms. Reagan does not do well when I drop her off at LRS. Hmmm. Amy said that it takes her a while (hours) to calm down after I leave. Uh Oh! Separation Anxiety!! UGH. So little miss misses her mommy. I love the fact that she loves me that much, but it makes me worry that she's not happy. I am sure this is all normal. Right?

Tonight after I picked her up, we went over to Grammy and Grampy's to visit. She quit fussing as soon as she saw them - of course. They have the magic touch. :) While she was there, she said "ball" and also stood still for about 10 seconds. We all just watched in amazement. She was calm and steady. She didn't waiver.

Now Jim is upstairs giving her a bath and we are hoping for an early evening. Cross your fingers!

Happy Birthday Mom

Today is my mom's birthday! WOo hoooo!
Happy Birthday to you. Happy Birthday to you...

Another busy day

Today I took my turn at helping Mom and Dad get ready for their move. I went over after church for a few hours. I was surprised at how much stuff people collect over the years. Despite the amount of stuff, we were able to work and get a few loads over to their Ashmont home.

When I got home, Reagan was playing well with Daddy. We hung out and played for the rest of the afternoon. she's trying even more to stand on her own. She seems to be doing in purposefully now. She'll actually stand without holding on to anything for several seconds without any bobbling. Yea Reagan!

Mom and Dad came over for dinner before the big day. We all had a busy weekend and I wanted to make sure Dad got time with Reagan before he couldn't lift her for a while. Reagan always lights up bright when she sees them - I'm not sure who wins that anymore, Jordan or them.

Dad's surgery

Today Dad had his surgery. He went in about 2pm and we left the surgery center about 6pm. We met with the doctor after he was done working on him and he said it went well. Once he got in there, he did discover that "it was going to take him a while". The doctor knew it was a bad injury which is why he rushed him into surgery. But in true Schansberg fashion - Dad did a real number on his shoulder.

He had a "massive" rotator cuff tear along with a few other problems. To explain how bad it was... a small tear would have taken 1-2 sutures, a large tear would have taken 3-4. Dad's took seven - in one location! Oh My! I'm proud of him. The doctor also said that his tendon was frayed like the end of a rope would be. And it just took a lot to get all of it back together. The good thing was that his joint was "young" and his tissue was in really good shape. He felt that dispite the time between injury and surgery, Dad would do well in recovery. It was going to be a long road, but he would recover.

So that's just the start of the story. We were all so busy worrying about Mom and Dad's move, that we didn't worry about what happens after Dad has his surgery. Where will he sleep? Did they stock their cupboard? Did they have ice for the ice machine? Ya know, the basics for recovery. Ugh. Thank goodness for the "arm block" or Dad would have been in pain on the way home from the center.

The nurse said that Dad needed to sleep sitting up. A bed really wasn't a good answer, a chair would be better. A recliner is best. Well, they don't have any of that. Dad had a wing back chair, but that would be really uncomfortable. So, I called Jim. He came to the rescue again. :)

He packed up our recliner and Reagan in the back of the car and waited for me to get home. We hauled that over to their house and had it set up before they got home. I can't believe none of us even thought to plan for "after surgery" - especially me. Oh well. So Dad can now sleep sitting up comfortably.

We finally got towards home about 9pm. Reagan was getting really fussy and we needed to get home. We left Mom and Dad all bundled up in their home. We'll be praying for them tonight. I hope he does well for the first 24 hours. They can be tough. If he can get past the first three days with little pain, he should be good.
