Today was a really nice day. Reagan slept from about 830 last night til 800 this morning. Wow. After she got up, she ate and then we quickly took off for the Cincinnati Zoo. This was the first time Reagan had been. Both Andrea and I hadn’t been in probably a decade either. It’s been a really long time. And of course “we were going for Reagan”. Ha ha. Yea – we wanted to see the monkeys and all sorts of stuff. I did completely forget how much the zoo stinks. But my allergies reminded me shortly after we got there.

We had a blast – we saw penguins hanging out, monkeys swinging, babies with their mothers, the giraffes and a ton of other cool animals. Reagan did great through the whole thing. She was able to see a lot of the stuff and just absorb it. She definetly likes to people watch. About two hours after we go there, she fell asleep for her nap. It was toasty warm out which is perfect sleeping weather for her. She clung to her little snuggly as we walked around a little more before venturing into the gift shop. What a nice time.

Tonight we headed to dinner at Max & Ermas with my parents. It’s probably been since my wedding that they had seen her. It was a nice evening with them – just hanging out.

The spider bite

Ok this is the third time this has happened to me – twice since I’ve married Jim. But I got bitten by some nasty spider. I really don’t know if it was a wolf spider, brown spider or what. Needless to say – it looks gross. After my shower this morning, Andrea noticed it on my arm. I’ve had this bite for three days now and it was definitely getting much worse. So instead of going to the zoo, we decided it was best to see if I could get in to see a doctor. I called my primary care doctor and was lectured – one for not knowing who my doctor was (I haven’t been there in over 2.5 years) and two for not calling at the right time for an emergency (I was informed that emergencies are called in by 8am – it was about 10am). So I quickly decided that I was done with them and went to urgent care. Yea. So off we went – baby, Andrea and me. We were in and out really fast – very nice. And yes it was a spider bite. They gave me Bactrim pills and ointment. Lovely.

Andrea

Andrea came in town today. Yea. We haven’t seen her in a little while – and she hasn’t seen Reagan since she was in my belly.  Reagan and I went to the airport and talked about “Aunt Andrea” coming to town the whole time. We waited and waited by the escalator for her to arrive in the baggage area. When she got there, Reagan had really no problem going to her at all. It took her about 2 minutes to warm up and she was hooked. She loved Andrea from the start. She smiled and cooed. I can’t believe how easy it was.

After picking her up, we came home to hang out and wait for Jim to get home. We met Emily and Paul for dinner at Sweet Basil. Emily has taken a new job (and I have a new one) so we had decided to celebrate. It was nice having our friends together like that.

Lots of stuff

There are so many things from today that I think I’m going to bunch them all together – her hands, reaching for me, pulling her hair, a cowlick, and sucking her thumb. Oh my.
Hands – Today, when I went to get her up from her morning nap, she was quietly playing in her crib. I had heard some clanking on the turtle, but not much else. When I got up there, all I could see was her hands in the air over her crib rails and they were rotating. She was studying them. It cracked me up. She just kept moving them and flapping them over and over again.

Reaching up for me - She has started reaching for me more often. Not just from within her toys, but anytime she wants me to pick her up. She isn’t consistent yet, but she seems to be doing it much more often.

Pulling hair – she now pulls her hair in protest too (or when she’s tired). I can’t figure it out. It’s just amazing what a little personality she has and is developing. I am just having a blast watching it change.

Between the cowlick and her thumb sucking, I am really not sure which the bigger deal was. I noticed this morning that her hair had a “lift” in it. It was odd. No amount of water or lotion would keep it down. Can a baby REALLY have a cowlick?

Sleeping through the night

Well she slept through the night. I am not sure if it was the pool or the bath, but she was worn out!

Big day for a little girl

I dropped her off for a “test run” with Lynn today and she was not happy. When I dropped her off, Lynn said to “get going” but she was already crying by the time she walked away. I ran my errands and had a huge day planned, but ended up sleeping for about 2.5 hours. Apparently I needed the sleep. I called Lynn at 2:00 pm to see how she was doing and she said that she was mad. She had cried all morning and was still having trouble. Oh No! She told me to not worry and that it was normal. Hmm. I couldn’t stand that. I picked her up at 4:00 pm. When I walked around the back, Lynn and the kids were sitting outside just hanging out. Reagan was just chillin in the walker.

When I approached her, she didn’t even see me. Once she saw me, she ignored me. She didn’t even react. She just sat there and looked at me. It took her until I picked her up to “say hi”. It broke my heart. Hopefully she will do better next time.

Thumb
She was sucking on her thumb today a lot. I’ve never seen her do that. But she was successfully putting her thumb in and out of her mouth and chewing away. Wow. I hope she really doesn’t end up being a thumbsucker.

Spilling of water glass at dinner

Tonight Reagan didn’t want to just hang in her chair while we all ate. So I picked her up and sat her on the table. She, of course, reaches for everything. This means we had to “baby proof” the dinner table which sounds really funny to me. We missed something – my big water glass. It’s a 32 ounce cup that I drink out of. Well, she grabbed for it. She got it. She spilled it. ALL OVER! She wasn’t happy at all. It was cold and wet and she was not happy. But all the adults laughed.
