Sledding is way too much fun

We took the girls outside this morning to sled in the front yard. It's a perfect hill for their size. We did some snow angels (me too) and tried to make some snow balls. The snow wasn't great for much then playing around and sledding.

Reagan eventually said "I want to sled" and grabbed a sled for her and Maddy and walked to the hill. Maddy was close behind her. The cool thing this year - Reagan can stop herself. We didn't ask her to, she did it herself. She was so proud of herself too. She had one time she spilled off the curb, but she scampered pretty quickly to get back onto the snow.

Maddy's sled kept turning her around. She ended up sliding down the hill backwards several times. She didn't mind at all.  I think we made it about 30 minutes before the girls said "I'm cold" and we hurried inside. Once inside, Reagan curled up on the couch and waited for her hot chocolate. Maddy never got the taste buds for chocolate milk, much less hot chocolate. She opted for juice and crackers.

It was a nice way to spend the morning instead of cooped up inside staring at ice. :)

Skating party

Today we went to a skating party for someone at their school. They have both been up on skates now about four times. Maddy was more than ready to do her own thing and basically let go of Jim's hand as soon as she could. Reagan is ready but needed a bit more encouragement. Once she got over the "freak out" stage, she did great. They both were moving around the rink really well. I think Maddy at one point actually jumped in place. That shocked us both. But she doesn't seem to have any fear yet - comes with her age I guess.

But the toys they chose at the end of the afternoon cracked me up. Maddy wanted the light up glow stick - Reagan wanted the hand buzzer. She played with that thing the entire way home. She wound it up and shook our hands, a lot. She giggled each time. It was so cute.

Karate girl

Tonight, Reagan did really well at karate. She's starting to really improve and listen much better. Sensei let me know that he was bragging on her because he hadn't seen me in a while and I would have been impressed with her during class time.

Yea Reagan!

Dress-up time

Tonight, Reagan led Maddy downstairs to get dressed up. Normally, she doesn't dress up herself. She just puts stuff on Maddy. Tonight, she came upstairs all decked out herself in her glasses, crown and shawl. They were hilarious. They both dressed up and put together a whole dance for us to watch. :)

Choking!

Oh. My. Gosh. I've never had to do a finger sweep on my baby, but tonight I did. I gave her a couple dried apricots and she put them in her mouth and took off.  I told her not to walk around, but she didn't listen. She came back into the kitchen a minute later with terror on her face. She was choking. Holy Cow!  I was wondering if I was going to have to do the Heimlich, but quickly noticed she had a GOB of food in her mouth and I could do the finger sweep. She was crying by the time I got it out. Talk about scaring the heck out of her mama.

Rough day with puppy boy

So today has been rough again. Carson had a seizure at midnight. Jim and I quickly moved to get him bathed and us back into bed. He seemed fine the rest of the evening. We kept him in his crate and he rested well. This morning, he had three additional seizures all by 1:00 PM.

Now he's doped up on valium and on additional doses of medication hoping to break the clustering of seizures. I'm really scared.

Update from today: He's had six seizures today. Each one progressively makes him less steady on his feet. The last one was at 9:30 pm or so. We gave him some more valium and are praying he has a restful evening.

Seizures again

Last night was a bit rough for us. Carson fell asleep on the couch next to me and I woke up to him falling off the couch in a seizure. This was about 2:45 am. Ugh. The good thing is that it was relatively short and he seemed to come out of it easily.

Fast forward a bit - we bathed him and got him calmed down and went back to bed around 4:00 am. We invited him up in our bed. Of course he sleeps next to me on my pillow. He woke up at 5:00 am in another seizure. Ugh. Now we are freaked out. It was very short this time, but still it's scary.

So we got him settled down again and then, because he wouldn't stop whinning, we let him out. That's when our night got worse. He took off. Literally. Left our yard. We had forgotten to put back on his collar, but he's been outside without his collar before and never left. He's trained.

So Jim comes in the bedroom at 5:30 and says "I can't find Carson". Really!? I am not thinking it's a big deal yet, but after some quick looking, we realized that he was  just gone. And because he's never left before and his recent seizure, we have no idea what he'd do or where he'd go.

Jim walked our entire neighborhood looking for him in the blackness of night. Flashlight in one hand, phone in the other. Sigh. I stood outside the garage door from time to time with Sydney hoping he'd smell her or hear her and come home. Nothing.

By 6:30, we were freaked out. He had walked all the way down our street and our section. He walked down past my parents. No sight of him. I encouraged him to get into the car and start driving. Who know where he was at this point. It had been almost an hour. It's cold and dark out. The temps were low and the streets were iced over.

He took off and within 15 minutes, he had a phone call from a neighbor saying he was over off Nelson. Wow. He took a really good long walk. Jim found him prancing around. Thank God he was fine. Just wet mostly.

But he's home.
