Reagan's surgery

This morning, about 3am, I got up to give Reagan her last bottle before surgery. 3:20 am was the cutoff for any liquid or food. She went back to sleep pretty fast and slept until about 7:30 am. I quickly got into the shower and listened while I got ready to make sure she was good. I wanted to change up the routine so she didn't look for the bottle this morning. It worked. I got upstairs and she was having a blast in her crib. We got up and played for a bit and then went downstairs. I have to say I was quite impressed with the fact that she seemed to handle missing breakfast just fine.

We left for Children's about 9:00 am and got there right on time. They were wonderful with her. There was a play area for the kids to play in and video games for the larger kids. When we went to the exam area, the nurses were great with all of us. They played with Reagan, set her up with toys and all the while giving her a physical before surgery.

About 11:30 am the doctor came in to visit with us and asked us a few questions. Then he said that we'd be going back in a tad early. Thank goodness. She was getting grumpy becuase she was hungry. She had been asking for food for about 20 minutes on and off. Jim and I had to keep distracting her.

They came and got her and we all walked to the "induction" area. There we were met by a ton of nurses all checking her out. Reagan was nervous and curious with most of them until one older doctor came in the room. She lit up with him for some reason and started waving at him. Odd, but cute.

Anyway, they had to hold her down to put her under. Jim held her while I hovered. It was hard to watch but I seemed to be okay until I had to leave her. I had a hard time walking out of the room without her. They reassured us and said "she'd be taken care of". Ugh.

I have to say - it was a horrible feeling leaving her. I hate that feeling of walking away. I knew she'd be fine, but I just wanted to hold her as long as I could.

We no sooner got to the waiting room and used the restroom before they called us saying the procedure was done. Wow! The doctor came in and talked to us and said "she did great and we'd probably have to take her back from the nurses because they loved her". Ahhh.

We got back to see her after she was waking up and she was grumpy. Very grumpy. Screaming and just mad. The nurse said "she's very strong". Yep she is. I finally got to hold my baby girl... ahhhh just to hold her. I needed that. She was fine after a bit. She calmed down after about five minutes of me swaying her back and forth (standing not sitting mind you). After a bit she took a bottle and started to do much better.

By the time we got home, she was doing fine. She was wobbly - which was funny to watch - but she was great. Jim and I both really hope this works!
